Oh that silence hit again, didn’t it? Congratulations to @kirstiekwiat who won the giveaway; it’ll be with you very soon! Its been a busy couple of weeks of homemaking as a friend so lovingly called my decorating; I much prefer her description, thank you Jenny! But yes, homemaking has taken priority and Oliver is finally in his own bedroom. All that’s left is to put up his blind and find the bits for the cotbed so he can move from his crib which he is fast outgrowing!
Anyway, I decided it was about time I shared a piece of work with you that I’m pretty proud of. I don’t know why I haven’t blogged about it sooner, it was finished in March! I decided I wanted to make my mom something nice for Mother’s Day, and as she’s pretty good at photography I thought i’d turn one of her photos into stitch. However, her favourites were completely unexpected and wouldn’t have been quite so interesting to stitch. She’d recently entered a competition for one of her favourite singers, Gretchen Peters, with a little watercolour image that she’d done herself. Mom was really chuffed when she won, so I decided that this would be the one to stitch. I used handstitch on felt for the whole piece, and combined some foiling and beading to create different textures. I also used Derwent Inktense blocks to create the colours for the background. I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves on this one, and you can watch the work in progress grow.
I picked up a couple more frames yesterday, and I’ve got some images to work from so I’m hoping to fill those and pop them in my Etsy shop in the coming weeks. I’ve only got one piece in there at the moment, but you can see it here. I’m also planning on adding some handstitch necklaces very soon; I’m just trying to sort out the frames! I’ve got a date with my watercolours this afternoon….
